Too young for makeup?

How young is too young for a child to wear makeup? A mommy blogger who wrote about her child's new fascination with adult cosmetics has ignited an online debate over how young is too young for girls to become interested in beauty. Eyewitness News wants to know what you think.  Post your comments and they could appear on Eyewitness News First at 4 p.m.

I think light make up is fine for playing or special occasions like weddings, plays etc... I started experimenting with make up in middle school when all my friends did. It's important to remember that there are chemicals in cosmetics that may be harmful to developing children (in nail polish especially). It's also important to teach girls that beauty doesn't come from a bottle or tube, but from within.

I think if you're too young to clean your own bottom then you're too young to wear makeup. 4 years old, not even just for play.

I think girls should get makeup no younger than ten.

I think its ok for a child to wear simple makeup as early as middle school, something as simple as clear lip gloss. Every little girl gets curious with makeup but its up to the parents on introducing the appropiate type for a certain age.

I think it is perfectly fine for a young girl to be facinated with make-up and want to play and try it on. This is fine for dress up and play in the home. When the child wants to wear this make-up outside the home is a no-no before the age of 16 in my books! This precocious behavior is inviting pedophiles to prey upon your young girl if you allow this. What message is she sending? look at me I am a woman? Enjoy being a kid you will be grown for a very long time! Im just sayin...
