What changes would you make to New Jersey Transit?

If you were in charge of New Jersey Transit what changes would you make?  Again this morning there were delays due to power problems.  Can issues like these really be avoided? Post your comments (below) and they could end up on Eyewitness News.

I don't think that only NJ transit is not doing will with commuters. You could say that about the transit in Westchester and Rockland as well. They all don't cover all the areas that one needs to get to and when you travel you must leave a lot of extra time for late buses and missed transfers. They raised the fares and lowered the service. I wish they had more responsive drivers. They can get very abusive. I was told that one bus driver put someone in the hospital because he got angry with him.Its not that hard to get frustrated with the kind of drivers they hire on the buses. And they're late a lot, but they won't admit it. They don't accept criticism well.

First thing you have to understand is that the problems this morning were caused by AMTRAK equipment NOT NJT !! The problems were cause by power loss in the Hudson tube which affected the NEC and NJCL rails and they are all under the management of AMTRAK!! For ONCE will you report it correctly, even on the NJT website it's reported as an AMTRAK problem. Oh I forgot AMTRAK is the lost child of the federal government that reaps all the funding and you people are afraid to report that. Report it right for once please.News people liars in disquise.

Nicer Conductors

Also, they all seem to have their own way of doing things. It not consistent from one day to the other. With all the modern technology do we really need to have someone collecting our tickets. There has to be a better way!

New Jersey Transit is run by Amtrak. They always allow Amtrak trains to have priority and they keep NJT waiting in line for hours. Amtrak trains are usually the ones breaking down, causing mechanical problems, pulling down wires. I think NJT should run their own rail line and get Amtrak off!!!

i would change how the tracks run.I would also put more safety.i would have no deylays

The problem with NJ Transit is that it is still too reliant on Amtrak when it comes to rail. They need to get dedicated entrance and exit for Penn Station, instead of sharing rail with everyone else. You do this, and much of NJT's rail problems are basically over.

Very Simple Communication. In this day and age with instant media, Twitter, email, Iphones, GPS ,etc. NJ Transit should have enough techology at there finger tips to keep commuters informed on delays re-routing's etc.

Sam

Can't the issues with the tunnels and loss of power be remedied ahead of time, so the problem won't keep occurring? There are so Amtrak and NJ Transit that constantly use the tunnels, the trackman should foresee the problems in advance.

I'm not a commuter but without any doubt I would fine a way to build a rail system through the Route 9 corridor in NJ. There are so many commuters and so many buses these people deserve a better way to commute, Old Bridge, Marlboro, Manalapan and freehold are places that make sense, Additionally, all buses should be double decker hybrids. Twice the size half the cost

Esther

I'd make the intrastate buses a flat fare. It's confusing to figure out whether you need to have $1.50 or $2.15

Sarah

I would install WiFi on the trains. They raised the fares and there have been no significant changes to show for it. The schedules are terrible, the delays are often. NJTransit needs quite a bit of help.
