Pass the bill...Republicans only out for the rich

I love the plan. I thought it was creative and showed what a great president Mr. Obama is...This country should come first before politics...many times the 2 party antics hold us back,.,enough already....
I am FOR the job plan! God Bless America!!!

His plan stinks. Just a continuation of his overall stupidity.

Dan Baird

Obama's plan will provide temporary Construction jobs. When the projects are complete or when the money runs out those jobs will be gone and the USA will still be in the same sinking boat.
Most of the unemployed do not work in construction.

porky

More pork that wont work- except for cutting the payroll tax, which stops people from hiring, or makes them pay lower salaries (business dont just eat the tax- they take it from that they could pay you)

The President gave a great Job Plan, and I pray to God that the Republicans will stop playing games with us. We the working people are tired of the Republicans playing with our lives. We are the people who are paying their salaries, mortgages, and putting food on their tables. Its time to stop", we are sick and tired of the Republicans disagreeing with the President just because they want to see him fail. Well I am an American that supports what the President is trying to put into play for all people. Everyone should pay their fair share, and not just us, the middle class working people. Yes, I am one of those people who are pay check to pay check, not knowing if I can pay my mortgage on time! So I say, get with the program and pass this Job Plan, so my daughter can get a job with decent pay to be able to take care of her 2 children, and other people who are out there looking for work!! Stop the madness please!!!

I think the speech was fantastic. Its such a shame that the republican's stance is not criticized and seems to illogically spun as a fine idea as to be stubborn and not yield ANYTHING when trying to get their opinion heard - even to the point of making us lose our credit rating. If an individual were behaving as irrationally, their credit rating would go down too. The republicans created that by the adoscent approach of crossing their arms and saying NO to everything. Even when its time for them to contribute it seems to just be more criticism and no constructive working together. It seems as if nothing can be right that he does in the republican's opinion - he gets Bin Laden and they can hardly say it was good... all the comments on the sunday shows after that seemed to revolve around what Bush had done to set this up (3 years ago)... so Obama did nothing to find Bin Laden? If it had been done by Bush, oh he's a god, but done by a excellent leader and statesman - much to threatening to the Palin-trailer park we-don't-like-those-professor-types demographic. I also dont understand why there can be no new or modifications of the taxes of the rich. There are loop holes, deductions, and ways that they pay less than I do. It is a guess that letting the rich keep their money will create jobs. The rich might just keep their money or spend it, perhaps only stimulating the luxury retail sector, not jobs - so what do they do for someone who is starving and needs social services? People are not abusing the system, people are actually in trouble in the US. Social services and supporting education creates well-fed seniors and ill people, good public education, and intrastructure. Obama says no taxes for the middle class so what is the problem for the majority of citizens who fall into that economic area? It's spin that the rich are creating jobs. Look at Enron. Maybe the rich are important because they support retail? But much of our retail - luxury or not - is foreign-based. Supporting the luxury brands - many of which are foreign - does not change american jobs. I think Obama's point that the companies that export their work should not tax advantages for taking jobs out of the US, etc. That was brilliant. Large business, not small business is being protected. I'm not sure why people with no money would support their representatives who want to keep the rich - rich. Why not tax the rich? Its strange. Yes, theoretically, the republican party wants small government, but Bush's government was huge. In addition, the same people who want social reductions, scream their heads off if people do not get social services after a storm, for example. Chris Christy felt his state, NJ, should be granted monies for the damages from the terrible flooding and winds of Irene and that any reductions to the deficit, should not be taken out of NJ's money. You cant have it both ways. People dont want the government involved and then scream their heads off for what they want the government to do and is not doing supposedly. It's personal agendas run amok. If someone wants the government to step in, where are they. If its not important to them personally it seems, that government should stay out. Working together is not rewarded... we watch and love shows like the Real Housewives, which rewards petty fighting with fame. Conflict and standing your ground is admired - not statesmanship and communicating... and importantly making decisions TOGETHER. Obama every way from the beginning of his term has tried to the get the "Party of NO" to contribute to a conversation about decisions and policy. They say no and paint obama as a bad leader. He's an excelent leader, but he can only do so much if people are obsinately saying my way or the highway - its a bit of projection saying that Obama was saying that tonight. He has been criticized for not taking the reigns and forcing his agendas more strongly as a leader and now he said we should stop this foolish pigheadness of saying no to everything and work together, in a more forceful way and now hes the bad guy? SPIN SPIN SPIN.

"cash for clunkers?" a trillion dollar "Obama care" giveaway and now a 450 billion dollar vague spending plan? Our president is losing his credibility.

The President laid out a plan, lets see what congress does, Mr. President excellent speech!!!!!!!!!!!

ANNIE NELSON

Of course he is right. You know it and everyone that is middle and below know it. A loaf of bread cost 3 dollar and I don't have a job and about to lost my unemployment check. How do you think I feel watching these me $1000 suit telling the president that he can't give me a job, can't even tried. And all thhose the pretender should shut up because if they had the country best interest they would be supporting President. Most of them supported all the actions that got us in this mess. Now the want to make it seem like it all this man's fluat. A on top if that HE HAD NOT HAD 4 YEARS TO DO CLEAN UP THE MESS OR ANYTHING. How can he do anything when before he say of do anything they are all over him, His plan said to me I understand what you are going through I want to help. The rest say come over here and eat this steak they will be al righ. how didthey get there.

President Obama's speech was ground-breaking. He stood up for the people who elected him into office and for the majority of American people. He stood firm and offered a plan to put people back to work, and reward businesses that hire new workers, rebuild our transportation and infrastructure, and bring jobs back to America! And last but not least to tax the corporations who have reaped record profits during the recession, and maintain protections to keep us safe and lessen pollution. Democrats and Independents will stand behind him if he follows through on the key issues.

Michele Fernandez

I just wish that once and for all everyone would concentrate on the issue at hand. Jobs need to be created and the elections are a little over a year away. Can we worry about creating jobs for 2012 and not who will be President in 2013. Americans are hurting and need the government to take action. President Obama is putting himself out there to work together. Can congress get their act together and bring some common sense to the table! Stop the political games and start pulling up your sleeves to get some work done. We the citizens are sick of it and you the politicians need to get to work.

denise lombard

Why are the republicans being obstructionists--is that why they were elected, a party split in two that has no plans on co-operating on any policy that comes from the White House. What the President said tonight we have heard before, maybe, just maybe,if given a chance it might move the economy in an upward direction.
The "job plan" sounds good to every american who is struggeling to feed his family and is more than willing to work..........and why is this Obama's mess??? He inherited every bit of it and then the country put more on his plate than anyone could handle.

Karl B.

President Obama keps insisting that you can spend your way out of a Depression. Lets face it folks, that is standing in a 12 foot deep hole and saying that if we dig faster, we can get out of the hole. My Daddy used to say, "when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging." Obama is just a typical politician, on the campaign trail, throwing money down every rat hole that he thinks will buy him a vote.

Watching World News Tonight prior to the President's address there was an interview with the owner of a flower shop. He was asked if he would hire more workers if he received a tax cut. He said no. When asked under what circumstances he would hire again he replied, "when there is demand for his flowers". The Republicans need to see this. They can cut taxes for large and small business all they want, but that money will just go into the owners pocket unless demand is created for their product or service. How do you create demand? By putting money into the hands of the average American to spend. The business owner is NOT the one who creates the jobs, rather it is you and me. We do it by increasing demand for products which means that more workers are needed to produce those products and THAT creates the need for a business owner to hire. WE create those jobs. And the President's plan puts money - about $1500 - into the hands of the average American next year. THAT is a good thing. He embraced proposals from both sides of the aisle that have already been put forth by both parties. Now, will it pass Congress? As much as I would like to be the optimist and say yes, I really don't think it has a prayer. Why? It's simple. There is just NO WAY the Republican's are going to hand Obama a huge win like this leading up the 2012 elections. Mitch McConnell put it bluntly when he said his entire focus is to make sure that Barack Obama would be a one-term president. They will not hand him any kind of victory if will increase his chances of being reelected next year. Just not gonna happen. Nope. No way. No how. So Americans will continue to suffer for the sake of Republican politics.

I think the speech was very good the President spook to the people telling them his jobs plan this is what people wanted to hear now he has told them his plan now his supporters should rally behind him

Great plan! Sadly, the republicans have no respect for our president and want to see him fail at any cost. Screw the polls! Obama will win reelection. Everyone I know who voted for him are anxious to vote for him again. The simple-minded idiots who speak ill of him should fall in line. Go Obama!

Tonette

President Obama was 100% on point in his speech. Just because his plan is a repeat does not mean that it's not a good plan. Sadly, the Republican party is against the President's plan, not because it isn't a good one, but because it's not their plan, although they have none. Even if he was not considering running for another term, the plan needs to be voted. Congress, either show us how to build a better bridge or allow us to build the one we have planned. This partisan behavior that congress has embraced is ruining our nation. Not one of our congressional representatives knows what unemployment is all about. They all have good jobs, good pensions, the best health care, and good salaries. Aren't the rest of us Americans entitled to the same thing?

Chris D.

I think the president delievered a well thought out aggressive speech. He has been asking for cooperation for some time but always gets problems from the republicans. If we can this time listen to his plans and meet his requests and put the people first before political agendas, we might actually get americans back to work. Let's work on passing this bill Washington!!

Stacy Lynn

There are many jobs that are funded through medicaid. This proposed plan will cut funds in Medicaid causing jobs to be cut throughout the field. So, how does this increase jobs? All it is doing is cutting in one area and supplying in another, AGAIN.

Bev

It seems like a fair enough plan that asks both side of the aisle to compromise. Something has to be done to jump start the economy, and I am hoping that the politicians can put their egos and agendas aside and finally put the best interest of America and its citizens first.

Brian

It doesn't matter how his speech was...Our government is beyond corrupt and dysfunctional and it cannot be repaired. And Michelle Bachmann is a complete psychopath. The separation between church and state exists for a reason. That lunatic is more Priest than Politician.

Carolyn Jones

The president's speech was excellent. He addressed the problem laying out a feasible plan which will not add to the deficit. I think it is time for Republicans to step up to the plate and ccoperate for the benefit of America. If they don't, they will have to answer to American citizens.

I thought it was disrespectful for ABC to transfer to the possible terrorist attack before the jobs speech coverage was complete. I did turn to another channel at that time.

Muna

These are political tactics now that Election is coming again. get money out of ppl and use to live up their life in rich while others suffers. Promises are never fullfill and just look at the way both party talks all craps just o assure themselves they will be reelected.

D Williams

I support the President! Pass the Bill!!!

AS a sidebar, I do not agree with calling out Warren Buffet for a private tax matter and naming his secretary as a comparison. This is rhetoric that I think was a matter for Warren Buffet's CPA and bringing in the secretary was not appropriate.

The speech had spending elements that cannot pass at this point because of the split Congress. Additionally, I believe there is too much emphasis on highly skilled workers, they never get lost.I would like the president to concentrate on the light skilled workers in inner cities with much higher unemployment than others.Everybody needs a job, not just the guy or girl that knows how to fish a cable underneath the Hudson estuary.

cm

I think it's great. Wondered how Republicans would be able to pick it apart when lo & behold Eric Cantor has the gall to say that the "my way or the highway" attitude just won't work. That attitude has been the Republican's since Pres. Obama took office. The new Republican party is soooo arrogant.

CH

President Obama is in over his head and does not have the experience for the presidency, that is why things are getting worse. He is just repeating the same thing and campaigning already for the next election.I just hope the Congress works together for the better of the American people.

Andrea Gill

I have to say that the presidents plan sounds good and best of all it's a "Plan". Before this speech there was nothing but a lot of politics and back biting where there should have been concern about the family that's trying to figure out where their next meal is coming from or if they will have their mortgage payment next month or the month after so this "Job Plan" should be signed sealed and delivered.
