Jeter fakes ball hitting him to get on base
Yankees captain Derek Jeter admitted 'faking' being hit by a pitch in Wednesday's game against Tampa. Jeter said, "It's part of the game. My job is to get on base." Eyewitness News wants to know what you think. Post your comments below, and they could end up on Eyewitness News.

I am a Mets fan, so I have no sympathy at all for any Yankee,
but it is part of the game. He was right to do it. It would be wrong not to pounce on an opportunity like that.

I think Derek Jeter is a great player he did what he was supposed to do. Anyone that disagrees is just mad that thier favorite team's players aren't good actors!!!!!!! ;-)

Look people, its baseball...its part of the game. All players do it whether they are an all-star or not.

correction...JETER. I wouldn't call it cheating I would call it good strategy. Then again I'm only 9 years old.

so what..he trying to win, thats what your supposed to do. Its no different than trying trying to take a charge in basketball and flopping. Its the Umps job to cut thru the bull ****. Its not like he habitually does things like that.

You people need to get a life! Somebody said they were "outraged" by this. Really? How is this cheating? The ball was close enough to him to look as if it hit him and the knob of the bat is what .0002 inches from his hands? He got on base. Thats his job.

Wow that was not bright to do...Derek you are much better than that don't ruin it as many athletes does and we all who they are..

Speaking from a die Boston Red Sox fan for 30yrs now. I am very surprised that one of baseballs most stand up and classy guy would do a stupid move like that. Derek, I thought you were better than that. Might have to put you in the highlight reel with GAYROD slapping the ball out of the picchers hand.

wooow all u people are haters about how u people think jeter is to old n a cheater now wtf?? he did what anyone else would do to get on base n get his team in the best situation to win the game the diff between jeter and everyone else is that no one else would ever dare say anything about if he really got hit or not so stop HATING on jeter bc u dont have him on ur team n wish u did bc he is one of the best players of all time n he is kinda old what the hell do u aspect like a 36 year old playing baseball his whole life they are none going to do the same stuff like he use to when he was younger n the yankees dont cheat there way t championships they might get the best players thats just bc the "boss" r.i.p. had money to spend and get the best players he thought would win him championships the yankees dont win EVERY year do they?? NO so that means even with the best players they still lose so shut the **** up about the yankees always winning and buy their way to win world series every year freaking haters

I am a Jeter fan but I this is an outrage, a national figure lying about an injury to assist in winning a game. Disgusting behavior for a role model.

I never thought cheating was a part of good sportsmanship?! Is that what we are supposed to teach our young people?! I truly hope not. I wonder what The Babe, The Iron Horse and Joe D think?!

A bad call by an ump is one thing, and it happens plenty, but cheating to get on base is another thing..how would he have felt if they DID check the ball or instant replay?
I am surprised at him...he should be ashamed...

As a Yankee and a Derek Jeter fan, I would say that this should definitely go on Jeter's highlight film. It's just another example of of how he stands above other players as an impacting force. He does it offensively, defensively and has the presence of mind to take advantage of a situation like this and use it to help his team win. (Although he probably won't get away with it again.) As a baseball fan in fairness... It's yet another example that shows it is time to institute instant replay in MLB.

I can't believe the "Captain" would do this. If you have to cheat to get on base you don't belong there. It should not be allowed.

Haven't you ever heard that 'Jeters never prosper." They lost the game...lol

Good for him,he helped the ump make the call.I put it in the same category as Arod,s call against Toronto which caused the players to miss that pop fly.Gotta love it,it,s a game.

I'm glad the Yankees lost - they deserved it. Jeter cheated. It's just one more example of how athletes think they could get away with anything. The umpires called the play because they thought he was hit because of faking his reaction to nothing.
What happened to honesty and integrity?

That is not the way the game should be played. Do we want our kids playing little league that way?
Posted by: Barry | 09/16/2010 at 12:17 PM
Hey "whatever it takes" is my opinion....How many times do umpires make mistakes against players then we see the replay and realize the call was missed...This time it was the other way around!

JETER IS A CHEATER, A BIG FRAUD. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY THEY CAN WIN. JETER TO OLD TO PLAY SO HE CHEATS TO GET ON BASE.I LOST ALL RESPECT FOR THE YANKEES. NOW WE KNOW WHY THE HAVE SO MANY CHAMPIONSHIPS, BY CHEATING THERE WAY TO THE TOP.
Posted by: CHRIS ROB | 09/16/2010 at 12:15 PM
He never said he was hit by the pitch and the umpires never checked to see or bothered to ask him, whats the problem.
Posted by: Ken | 09/16/2010 at 11:26 AM
That's cheating. Jeter never use to have to cheat to win a game. Totally lame.
Posted by: Laura Perez | 09/16/2010 at 11:06 AM
It was totally wrong of Derek Jeter to fake getting hit. The Umpires should have checked the ball. I wish the Umpires could have gone to Instant Replay.
