Dance Fusion Night on 'Dancing With the Stars'

This week on “Dancing With the Stars” no one will be eliminated.  Tomorrow is Election Day (Don’t forget to vote!) and there will be no Results Show.  This week though, the stars had to perform a fusion dance that was selected for them by their competitors last week.  Right off the bat, it’s kind of weird because they announced Mark Ballas, Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough, as a trio - that will be explained later.  Also, tonight’s votes will be carried over to next week and there will be a double elimination.

Apolo and Karina were up first with a fusion of Cha Cha and Paso Doble.  I loved how exciting the beginning of the dance was as they Cha Cha’ed to the beat of the music but had all of these dramatic dips and kicks.  Some of Apolo’s solo portion seemed a little weird, and then he took his shirt off!  Wow!  That got the crowd’s attention!  His hold looked amazing the whole time.  The end looked a tad frantic to me, but they pulled it off!  Len said there was nothing safe about the dance and he really attacked the dance.  Bruno said that he looked like he should be in “Twilight”.  He said that he loved it and thought it was triumphant!  Carrie Ann said that she couldn’t believe the way he was pushing himself and said that she liked the approach of the dance and it started strong and ended stronger, just how Karina has wanted it to be.

Their Scores:  Carrie Ann -9, Len – 9, and Bruno – 9, for a total of 27 out of 30.

Emmitt and Cheryl danced a Rhumba – Samba fusion.  I liked how smooth Emmitt looked, but Cheryl seemed to get a little tripped up in her own footwork in the morning.  Other than his fantastic hip action, I was looking for something more with their dance.  It was good, but there wasn’t something spectacular that I could pick out of it.  Bruno said that it was a smooth and balanced blend of the dances and he did a great job with that.  Carrie Ann said that going back and forth is really hard but she thought his upper body was really lacking.  Len said he thought Emmitt did a better job dancing it than he could have! Wow!

Their Scores:  Carrie Ann – 8.5, Len - 9.5 and Bruno - 9.5 for a total of 27.5 out of 30.

Kirstie and Maks danced a Quick Step – Samba fusion.  She looks so elegant in the quick step!  It was an adorable dance!  She really got into the Quick Step and then twisted out of her gown into a little slinky skirt and started to Samba all over the place.  She did a great solo portion of the dance and I really thought she did a great job having fun with it!  Carrie Ann said that the second half of the Samba she lost it and she fell out of sync.  She said that she liked the Quick Step part though.  Len said that it was nice mix and an admirable effort.  Bruno thought that she was really entertaining and said “Only you can turn Cinderella into a stripper”.

Their Scores:  Carrie Ann – 8, Len – 8, and Bruno – 8, for a total of 24 out of 30.

Kelly and Val followed with their Fox Trot – Cha Cha fusion.  I thought it was a very cute beginning and they Fox Trotted really elegantly together.  Then they started to Cha Cha and rip off each other’s clothes.  I think they really have great chemistry together out there.  I think this was my most favorite dance of theirs so far this season.  Len said that they captured the smoothness of the Fox Trot with the crispness with the Cha Cha.  Bruno said that she has the goods and she’s working overtime ha-ha!  Carrie Ann said that a lack of balance can happen and she liked how she recovered in the beginning and she thought that it was an overall beautiful routine.

Their Scores:  Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 9, and Bruno – 9, for a total of 27 out of 30.

Melissa and Tony danced a Tango – Cha Cha fusion.  These two are so crisp and totally in sync always!  It’s always a delight to see them together on the dance floor.  They put their full passion into it every time.  She did an amazing jump into a split and their timing really couldn’t have been better.  It was a great dance!  Bruno said that the transition between the dances was amazing and that the shapes in the tango were fantastic and that she has never been sexier in the Cha Cha!  Carrie Ann said that she was a star!  Len said that the dances were beautifully defined and he loved how they mixed the dances up back and forth because he said that is a proper fusion and I agree!

Their Scores:  Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 9.5, and Bruno 9.5, for a total of 29 out of 30!  That’s fantastic!

Derek had hurt vertebrae in his neck so Mark Ballas is back with his original dance partner Shawn Johnson.  So Mark practiced with her and it was up in the air whether Derek was going to be dancing tonight, and he was not well enough so it was Mark with her for a Tango – Paso Doble fusion.  They looked fantastic together.  Wow, I think I like her dancing better with Mark than I do with Derek!  They had some heat out on the floor and it wasn’t just the pyrotechnics.  They are two passionate dances and they pulled them off really well.  This is the first performance of the night where the crowd screamed at the end and leapt to their feet!  They need to get 10’s for this one!  Carrie Ann said that was a fusion and it was intertwined perfectly.  Len said it was a firecracker!  Bruno said that it was flawless!

Their Scores:  Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 10, and Bruno – 10, for a total of 30 out of 30.

Gilles and Peta were the last couple up with their fusion of Argentine Tango and the Samba.  I thought it was crisp and the footwork was superb!  They even did a spin lift it was fantastic!  The crowd loved this one too!  I mean, the level of perfection in these stars is amazing!  Len said that both dances were great!  Bruno said that it was sultry and intense and exciting and erotic!  Carrie Ann said wow, but she picked on his “little arm thingies”.  I don’t see what she sees, but I guess they are getting 9’s.  Let’s see if I’m right!  I would have given that a 10.

Their Scores:  Carrie Ann – 9.5, Len – 9.5, and Bruno 9.5, for a total of 28.5 out of 30.  That’s a great score even if it isn’t full of 10’s!

Then it was time for the swing dance marathon.  In the end, the technically perfect and very springy Melissa and Tony won!   The scores from earlier and then the scores from the marathon were factored together in the order that they were eliminated.  Melissa and Tony are at the top of the leaderboard and Kirstie and Maks are at the bottom going into next week.
