Latin Night Heats Up 'Dancing With the Stars'
Wow, really?! It’s already the half way point of the competition! It’s Latin Night and all things are hot and spicy including the band! They had a great opening number along with Carlos Santana.
Then it was time to greet the stars. Was William Levy there? That is what I was waiting to see. And what do you know…there he was! Hooray, he strutted down the stairs, shirt half open. Do you know who also looked really good tonight, Melissa Gilbert! Her hair looked great!
First up, Jaleel and Kym brought some high energy to the Samba. I loved how they had actual fire in the background. Jaleel was shaking it! There was one weird pause. I’m not sure if that was supposed to be there or not. They were so hot together though! You could tell that Jaleel really worked his tail off for this dance! Also, might I add, who knew Urkel had abs like those? Len said that he had rhythm in abundance and as for his hips he said “hip, hip, hooray!” He thought it was a great start to the show. Bruno said that he got the party started and he said that his hips and shakes were great! Carrie Ann said that he came out with attack and fire but did tell him to watch his arm when it’s out of hold.
Their Scores: Carrie Ann – 8, Len – 8, and Bruno – 8, for a total of 24 out of 30. I think that they deserved a 9 for sure, let’s hope that’s enough to keep them around.
Fresh off of her injury, Melissa was back with Maks to dance Salsa! They kind of wasted some time in the beginning with this whole cocktail waitress routine, but then they got right into it. Sometimes it really does look like Maks is whipping her around; I’m a little worried for her neck! He did do a really cool dip and spin with her and it was a lot of fun. She needed to shake it a little bit more at times and have more precise arm movements so she didn’t looking like she was just marking them. This was definitely my favorite dance of theirs so far though! It’s one of the first times they had great energy! Bruno said that she had lots of fire but she didn’t see that she was on the beat. Carrie Ann said that she notices that she has gained a lot of confidence over the past few weeks. However she did agree with Bruno about the timing, and suggested taking smaller steps. Len said he saw great rhythm but sometimes he saw some untidy parts, but overall he said he enjoyed it and “well done!”
Their Scores: Carrie Ann – 7, Len – 7, and Bruno – 7, for a total of 21 out of 30. Wow, I would have thought one of them would have given them an 8 because it was an improvement over last week I thought.
Maria and Derek had a close call during rehearsal this week when she smashed her chin into the floor. Thankfully she’s just fine. Her ribs and feet continue to heal though. They took the floor with their Salsa. Maria started by shaking it all over Dr. Drew! She looked so fabulous in her skimpy yellow costume! Then Derek dipped Maria and took his shirt off! It kind of took a little too long…but that’s just my opinion. He was kind of more concerned about showing off than making her look good. Then, she grabs his face and laid a choreographed yet BIG kiss on him! It lasted a long time too! Overall though it was a fantastic dance. I think it was maybe missing just a teeny bit of the flow that they had in the prior weeks. The crowd loved it though and gave it a standing ovation because let’s face it, it was hot! Carrie Ann said that it was a hot dance and she loved how she worked her upper and lower body. She said that they didn’t need to kiss on the dance floor though, because the song is about the illusion of heat, not going at it on the dance floor. Len said he wasn’t too impressed with Derek’s body but he was very impressed with Maria’s dancing. Bruno said was it legal? Do you want a room? And May I join in? Ha ha ha! He said it was naughty and hot and that’s how he likes it!
Their Scores: Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 9, and Bruno – 9, for a total of 27 out of 30!
Katherine and Mark were up next and hoping to redeem themselves from last week. This time around they were trying their luck with the Argentine Tango. They did a fabulous job with the lifts and their bodies were so in sync! It did seem perfect, but after Maria and Derek it definitely didn’t have the same amount of heat. I think it was a great dance that truly showed what an Argentine Tango can bring out of a great dancer, and it was just so different from what we had just seen. It was like watching a tragic love story unfold. Len said that it was like a rose, it had beauty and it had a thorn because it was menacing and bittersweet. Bruno thought it had choreography that was perfect and thought it was also played to perfection. Carrie Ann also used perfection to describe Katherine’s legs and called the dance poetry in motion.
Their Scores: Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 9, and Bruno – 10, for a total of 29 out of 30! It looks like they have reclaimed their spot on top of the leader board!
Yikes, poor Gavin and Karina have to follow a performance that just got two 10’s. Let’s see what these underdogs have to offer with their Samba. It looked like he had a little bit of a timing issue right off the bat but Karina got him back on track. I think he needs to make his steps and maybe even his arm movements a little sharper but less big if that makes sense. Overall it was a super cute performance, but again it would have been nice to see a little more heat! Bruno asked if he was suffering from tropical fever and said he let himself go and hoped for the best and he enjoyed it. Carrie Ann said that he was lacking form and it was hard to tell that it was a Samba. Len got booed for calling it a “shamba” instead of a Samba and he said it was a hard dance and a gallant effort.
Their Scores: Carrie Ann – 6, Len – 6, and Bruno – 7 for a total of 19 out of 30. Ouch!!! 6’s are awful!
Finally, the man you’ve all been waiting to see, William Levy and Cheryl Burke! He hurt his ankle during rehearsal, but fortunately an MRI revealed he was ok to dance and they had the Argentine Tango! It started off quite steamy! His lines were perfect! The crowd was screaming for much of it. Wow, those dips were hot! William Levy definitely didn’t disappoint! The dance was awesome; I hope they get some 9’s at least from the judges! I really, really loved it; it was exactly what you would expect so he did not have anything to worry about. Carrie Ann had to catch her breath after watching that one, ha-ha. Len said it was sensual and well done. Bruno said he saw pulsating passion!
Their Scores: Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 9, and Bruno – 10, for a total of 29 out of 30! They are now tied with Katherine and Mark for the top of the leader board! Woo!
Gladys and Tristan tried their dancing feet at the Samba. Gladys is going to have to shake it! She looked like a proud peacock (peahen?) in her sparkly blue and green dress. However, she was clearly a little lost in this dance. I think it’s about time for her to go home I hate to say. She seemed to have some fun during her little breakout solo where she shook it for the crowd. It was just clunky and seemed to start and stop a lot. Len thought it was simple yet effective and said “well done”. Bruno said that she played to the audience and said that she was like watching magic. Carrie Ann called out some of her mistakes but said that there is a reason she is the legend that she is. Wow, were they watching a different show?
Their Scores: Carrie Ann – 7, Len – 7, and Bruno – 8, for a total of 22 out of 30. Are you serious? She scored higher than Gavin? I liked his energy more.
Roshon and Chelsie danced the Salsa for their big Latin Night dance. He tried to summon his inner William Levy and I think it worked! He had those shakes and hip movements down! I loved his energy! He also did a great job taking control in the dance and did a wonderful job at the dips! I loved this dance! Bruno said that the energy and timing was unbelievable. Carrie Ann said that he was sexy in a Disney way ha-ha! She liked that he was himself out there and so on top of the beat. Len liked his enthusiasm and said he had full on speed and attack, but warned him to calm himself on occasion.
Their Scores: Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 8, Bruno – 9, for a total of 26 out of 30. I think Len judged their dance a little on the low side.
Donald and Peta rounded out the night with their Argentine Tango. It started with a crazy camera shot of her crotch which was kind of weird. But then they had some gorgeous lines and he really made her look stunning out there and she made him look like a real leading man. It was full of passion and heat. There was an amazing lift where she grabbed her ankles and made her body into a circle and he spun her around in the air, simply amazing! Wow, that one move made the dance insanely good. Carrie Ann said that the techniques of his lifts were amazing and that he was in control the whole time. Len said the lifts were spectacular, but said the rest was nearly but not quite. Really?! Bruno said that the buildup was amazing in the dance, but sometimes there were things that interrupted it. I think Carrie Ann was right on with her judgment, the others; I’m not sure what they were talking about.
Their Scores: Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 8, and Bruno – 9, for a total of 27 out of 30. Donald was so disappointed with Len! I was too! I think that an 8 was insanely low for that dance. I hope he watches it back again.
Tomorrow night, the final two during the elimination show will have a Cha Cha dance-off for the judges, and the judges will decide which couple to save.
