STORM UPDATE

FROM NOW THROUGH MIDNIGHT OR 2 A.M., THE STORM WILL PRETTY MUCH BE AT ITS PEAK FOR

OUR AREA. WE'LL BE IN THE GOOD MODERATE TO OCCASIONALLY HEAVY SNOW FOR THE NEXT

SEVERAL HOURS. THEN, THE BEST UPWARD MOTION WILL SHIFT FARTHER EASTWARD, AND OUR

SNOW WILL BEGIN TO TAPER OFF. BY ABOUT 4 A.M., GIVE OR TAKE, THE STORM WILL PRETTY

MUCH BE OVER, AND THEN WE'LL JUST HAVE LINGERING CLOUDINESS FOR THE BALANCE OF THE

NIGHT. WINDS HAVE PICKED UP DRAMATICALLY OVER THE PAST THREE OR FOUR HOURS WITH THE

STORM INTENSIFYING OFFSHORE. THE HEAVIEST SNOW EARLIER THIS EVENING HAS BEEN IN THE

BALTIMORE/WASHINGTON AREA WITH VISIBILITIES IN THE 1/8 TO 1/4 RANGE FOR AN EXTENDED

PERIOD OF TIME. DULLES AIRPORT HAD A SNOW INCREASE 2/8 AT 8 PM. THAT MEANS THAT THEY

PICKED UP 2 INCHES IN AN HOUR, AND 8 INCHES IN THREE HOURS! WE HAVE HAD NUMEROUS

REPORTS OF LIGHTNING AND THUNDER FROM EASTERN MD AND DE UP INTO NJ AND SOUTHEASTERN

PA. IF YOU INCLUDE THE AREA DOWN INTO MUCH OF DE AND BACK TOWARD WASHINGTON AND

BALTIMORE, OUR SYSTEM HAS PICKED UP A TOTAL OF 249 LIGHTNING STRIKES SINCE THIS

AFTERNOON! AS FOR SNOWFALL TOTALS, 9"(INCLUDING DAYTIME SNOW) WILL BE COMMON ACROSS

THE AREA.  THE REMAINDER OF THE FORECAST SEEMS FINE FOR NOW, AND NO OTHER CHANGES ARE

BEING MADE THIS EVENING. WE DO HAVE TO WATCH THAT CLIPPER SYSTEM CAREFULLY ON

SATURDAY. IT LOOKS LIKE A VERY VIGOROUS FEATURE, AND HAS THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE A 1-

3" OR 2-4" BAND OF SNOW NORTH OF ITS TRACK.

Hello Lee, Just wanted to let you know that here in Irvington, NJ we have AT LEAST 18" on the ground right now (01:20 Hrs. 1/27). The area that I had cleaned off yesterday in our back yard is once again piled high and the roofs of the surrounding garages that were clear of snow yesterday are (if you will forgive the poetic license) groaning with the snow load. I have some existing light photos I just got through taking a few minutes ago as proof of my statements, If you would like to see them send me an email and i'll send them on. Take Care.

Oh the weather outside is frightful
and the fire is so delightful,
I've got places I need to go,
I HATE SNOW...I HATE SNOW... I HATE SNOW!
When I finally dig out,
How I'll hate driving 'round in the storm,
but why can't i figure out,
How to get home safe and warm,
Desire is slowly dying,
and my dears I'm really crying,
So I guess I'll be stayin' home,
I HATE SNOW... I HATE SNOW...I HATE SNOW!

we have 8 inches snow here in hopatcong nj and still coming down heavy.
