A Couple of Quiet But Chilly Days Before Another Storms Hits the Area!
Wind & Rain Return for Wednesday and Thursday When a Nor'Easter Strikes with 50-60mph Winds.
Good Morning,
The central part of the Plains states will be the start of what could be another difficult week in the
Northeast. Looking at a Rad/Sat map you can see the storm system that will be our bane through
the middle of the week.
We, of course, continue to hope that the storm will eventually move farther off shore and we'll only
get to the edge of the system, but that has not been our luck as of late, so we'll prepare for the
next storm.
High pressure will build into the region today, but there is a low cloud deck that will be slow to
break up, but should do so through the midday and early afternoon hours as the trough swings
through and we get a northwesterly flow lined up aloft.
So tonight with high pressure in place and what should be mainly clear skies we'll get a little frost
and a hard freeze in some of the outer suburbs.
Tomorrow, there will be sunshine mixing with a few afternoon clouds as the thermal trough still in
place. This will lead to a few afternoon cumulus.
Now comes the pain. Clouds will increase ahead of the storm system that will be situated off the
Carolina Coast later tomorrow into tomorrow night, then lift northward during the day Wednesday.
So this is definitely a Nor'easter with the wind and the rain and the difficultly that goes with it. We
are looking at a difficult time with an easterly wind causing further coastal flooding. The only
fortunate part of this forecast with regard to the storm is that it will be moving faster than Sandy
did and the impacts will be significantly less (though I guess that's an obvious statement. There
will also be colder air on the western side of the storm and there will be a mixture of wet snow over
NW NJ and northward to the Hudson Valley. At this point we are not expecting any meaningful
accumulation of snowfall, but some higher elevations could receive a slushy covering. The rain
and mixture of snow will continue all of Wednesday night and into the day Thursday. Rain should
taper off later in the morning into the afternoon on Thursday.
Friday, high pressure builds back into the region with the return of sunshine and as a powerful
trough builds into the west a corresponding ridge will build into the east leading to some nice and
mild weather for the coming weekend!
Have a good day!
