A Nice & Mild Start to the NYC Weather Week!
A big chill is coming this weekend!
Good Morning, With a clear sky and light winds during the night, the temperature has managed to drop into the 20s in most areas outside of the larger, urban centers... But most of the big cities should wind up close to 30, or even in the lower-30s at daybreak... High pressure will be the driving force behind the weather pattern for the next 48 hours, and much of the nation will have relatively tranquil weather... While our surface maps do show a cold front moving across the Eastern Region tomorrow, there will be little or no moisture for it to work with... And, while it will be turning "cooler" behind this front, temperatures should still wind up near 50 degrees tomorrow before the effective cooling kicks in on Wednesday... That will be a day when temperatures will be mostly in the lower or middle-40s... One of the places which will be feeling the effects of a storm between over the next couple of days will be California, which has had a below-normal season for precipitation thus far... We'll be watching a vigorous impulse of jet stream closely tomorrow and tomorrow night as it emerges in the Plains states and then rapidly starts to move into the East... This parcel of energy will be providing the region with what we truly feel is "our best shot" of getting some precipitation this week... The time periods that it would occur around here would most likely be Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night... Unlike any slow-moving storm that would have ample time to tap into rich moisture originating from the Gulf of Mexico or the Atlantic, this feature is liable to only bring less than a tenth of an inch of liquid to the area... While the vertical temperature profile of the atmosphere looks quite 'marginal' when it comes to mentioning some snow as well as rain, we must assume that if the temperature does drop into the 30s early on Wednesday night, some wet snow may occur, especially in those areas located north and west of the big cities located near the I-95 corridor... Thursday and Friday, some sunshine will be returning and temperatures will start to trend upward once again... One important item in the longer range that we'll need to watch closely is an eventual outbreak of colder air, which will probably be arriving some time on Friday night or early Saturday... Although there could be enough instability generated by this colder air to trigger a few flurries, we'll refrain from putting them in the forecast until we know exactly when the colder air mass will reach the Eastern Seaboard... The consensus being formed now between the global models would suggest that while temperatures on Friday afternoon may be in the mid and upper-40s, Saturday may be almost ten degrees lower/colder, and Sunday could be the coldest day of the entire forecast period... Have a good day !!!

Dear Weather Team,
Why have you removed the Sunrise/Sunset posting during the 6:45am weekday forecast? It is information that I have always looked forward to knowing, particularly now, as daylight is getting longer. Please consider airing it again. Thank you.

Dear Weather Team:
We, here at the office, are very interested in the very long range forecast for the Spring and Summer of this year. Can you tell us anything at all? Will there most likely be a drought in the NY area? Will the summer be rainy (ugghh).
Thanks
