Watch the Fog Around the Tri-State Area This Morning! Get Your Rain Gear!
Heavy rain and maybe a thunderstorm for the NYC area today! Very Warm too!
Good Morning,
There could be some pockets of heavy rain around the Tri-State Area through early this afternoon...
A cold front will be pushing through the region between noon and 2 p.m. and there will be some local
wind gusts in excess of 30 miles per hour later today and early tonight...
Temperatures have been slow to climb, but there still are early this morning, and the
regional radar mosaic is showing pockets of rain occurring... The most widespread distribution of
the rain has been in areas north of the City, but even in those places that aren't as active -- we
are noticing that there is some drizzle and patchy dense fog... The steadiest rain, located in
central and southern New England as of this writing, is occurring because of the 'overrunning'
effect we had talked about a couple of days ago, and much of the mid-Atlantic region is currently
in what is called a "warm sector" (because it is located south of a warm front, but also well
ahead of an approaching cold front)... This morning's surface map is also showing a wave of low
pressure located near the border between Ohio and western Pennsylvania, which is destined to
head northeastward today before reaching southeastern Canada... Therefore, we can expect
some additional rain to occur this morning and even for a while this afternoon before drier air gets
the chance to arrive, and it may even be accompanied by some thunder and lightning...
Temperatures will continue to climb, and many will wind up between 15 and 20 degrees above
the seasonal averages this afternoon (or, in the lower and middle-50s in most of the higher
terrain and along the south-facing shorelines, but near 60 in the bigger cities located near I-95)...
These temperatures should actually peak around 1 or 2 o'clock this afternoon, just as the cold
front reaches the coastal plain and may begin falling after 3 or 4 p.m. after it pushes offshore...
Therefore, expect another "spring-like scenario" today, with some rain, possible thunder and
unseasonably mild air... And, even though winds from the surface on up to 5,000 feet won't be
very well-aligned this afternoon, the pressure gradient which will be enhanced by that deepening
wave of low pressure as it moves over Lake Ontario will cause some gusty winds... Those gusts
can be as high as 30 or even 35 mph this afternoon and early tonight before winds start to
diminish later tonight...
The upcoming weekend will be no less than partly sunny, and temperatures will still be no lower
than the mid and upper-40s both days... There will be some colder air arriving Sunday evening,
and the leading edge of this air mass could bring with it a few flurries and an isolated snow
shower... However, it now looks as if the temperature on Monday will still manage to be within a
couple of degrees of 40 in the aftenroon... Another uptick in temperatures during midweek may
be accompanied by some rain... Have a good weekend!!!

You said there will be a beautiful sunset tonight. As an amateur photographer, how can I tell that a sunrise or sunset will be spectacular by looking at weather factors? Predicting beautiful sunsets before they happen would allow me to make beautiful pictures.
Thank you,

What happened to the sunrise/sunset information? None of your reports seem to have it anymore. Will this information return? We miss it. How will we know? Can you tell?
