A Rainy Period for the NYC Area! Make Sure You Have Your Rain Gear!
Rain builds in the afternoon and heavy over night! Very warm and balmy temperatures headed your way Friday! A nice mild weekend rounds out the month of January! "Winter! Where is thy sting?"
Good Morning,
Some minor flooding issues are possible tonight and tomorrow morning in places that encounter a period of heavy rain.. Rainfall totals through early tomorrow afternoon will average 0.50" to 1.00" with locally higher amounts possible...
The leading edge of some milder air pressing into the Eastern Region early today is causing
some light precipitation across much of the Tri-State Area... In addition to some light rain, there
has also been some light snow and even freezing drizzle... Temperatures have been holding
nearly steady, and are mostly in the lower and middle-30s as of this writing... Therefore, we'll
have to address this "light wintry mix" in the short term before the temperature slowly begins to
rise later this morning, and some untreated surfaces may also be slick for at least a while...
< From the looks of the regional radar mosaic as of 3 o'clock -- the steadiest area of precipitation
that was occurring in the Five Boroughs will probably glide across Long Island between 3:30 and
5:30 a.m. >
With moisture expected to continue pressing northeastward into the mid-Atlantic region and the
Northeast this afternoon and tonight, some steady, light rain will be breaking out across the
Tri-State Area, and its intensity should start to increase later tonight... As a low pressure
system in the Lower Mississippi Valley early today tracks to the north and east this afternoon,
tonight and tomorrow, the bulk of the rich, moist air originating from the Gulf of Mexico will be
following it... Therefore, rain tonight and early tomorrow could come down heavily at times, and
there may even be a thunderstorm, primarily in portions of the mid-Atlantic region... That rain will
then taper to a few showers before ending from west to east tomorrow afternoon, first across
eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey (probably before 11 a.m.) and then southeastern New
England by mid-afternoon (closer to 2 or 3 p.m.)... The rain will leave behind an average of 0.50"
to 1.00" with some locally higher amounts possible, especially in the higher terrain located north
and west of the big, coastal cities... With clouds expected to break for a little sun later
tomorrow, temperatures will be peaking in the lower and middle-50s...
The weekend will be getting off to a relatively mild start on Saturday, and then it will start to turn
chillier Sunday and especially Sunday night... The next cold front could even trigger a couple of
rain or snow showers around here, but most of the time Sunday will be precipitation-free...
After a brief period in the mid and upper-30s on Monday, temperatures should "snap right back"
again, probably making a run at 50 by the middle of next week...
Have a good day !!!

Bill My grandson 14 years old and a freshman in High School is interested in meterology since he was 4 years old. I would like to buy him some books that you could recommend.
