Spotty Rain and Thunderstorms Today, Heavier Rain and Thunderstorms for Tomorrow!
PA (where the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Airport is located) and BGM (Binghamton's Airpoty) getting 2.07 and 2.40 inches of rain, respectively... As moisture-laden air continues to push from south to north, the radar mosaic as of 4:05 a.m. was showing most showers occurring from the City of Philadelphia on up the Delaware River into northwestern New Jersey... Meanwhile, the most that the Five Boroughs has had since late last evening is just a spotty shower or some drizzle... Fog, while probably not quite as widespread as recent mornings, is also going to be an issue in the short term... With an upper-level low pressure system still rotating over the Great Lakes region early today, a series of fronts is still in the process of closing in on the mid-Atlantic Coast... The cool front pushing into the area from the west will eventually stall, and as a weak wave of low pressure develops near the junction of this cool front, a warm front and an occlusion, showers today and tonight should evolve into a 'more widespread rain' along the I-95 corridor tomorrow... There
may even be a thunderstorm in a couple of spots over the next couple of days...
The global models continue to insist the the most widespread, and "steadiest" of the rain during
the next 36 hours will be occurring tomorrow... The quantitative rainfall totals being generated
by the 00z European model indicate that 1 to 1.5 inches will fall across much of the Tri-State
Area between today and early tomorrow night... The G.F.S. (American medium-range forecast
model) only prints out between 0.5 and 1.0 inches... However, isolated heavy downpours may
push a few totals up to 2 or 2.5 inches for the 36-hour period, which may cause localized
flooding...
On Friday, as the upper-level low pressure system continues to weaken and it opens up into a
simple trough in the winds of the jet stream over southeastern Canada, it'll manage to push a
second, much stronger cool front into the Eastern Region later on Friday and Friday night... As a
result, a couple more scattered showers could occur with the frontal passage late on Friday...
Then, as "October officially arrives" on Saturday morning, there will be a brisk, northwesterly
wind dragging noticeably cooler air into the Northeast and mid-Atlantic States... Winds on
Saturday could gust as high as 30 or 35 mph, and with plenty of clouds and highs only in the
lower or middle-60s, there may be a shower in one or two spots... Sunday, as we mentioned
yesterday, should offer much more in the way of sunshine, but it will still be cool with most
temperatures in the lower-60s...
Have a good day !!!
