A Great Day for the NYC Area! Enjoy!

Beacuse rain and thunderstorms move in for Wednesday.

Good Morning,

In a very hot and humid environment yesterday, thunderstorms that erupted in the Northeast and the mid-Atlantic states

hit some places pretty hard... Conversely, others were left untouched... Hail up to three inches in diameter (and, at the very

least, 'golf ball size') occurred in some areas.. These included Westchester (with the three-inch diameter hail occurring in White

Plains), Rockland and Dutchess counties, as well as in Nassau County... Baseball-size hail was also reported in Bayside,

Queens... The Greater Philadelphia Area (including the PHL airport), also had quarter-size hail... This is very impressive, and

demonstrates just how strong the updrafts in these thunderstorms were... During this time of year, when the freezing level is

typically higher, hail isn't quite as common as it is between the months of April and July...

Behind the front that managed to generate this heavy thunderstorm activity, there'll be a fair amount of sunshine today, and it

will also be less humid... Temperatures will be within a couple of degrees of 90 this afternoon... However, with the lowering

humidity and a gentle breeze, it won't feel very oppressive...

Tonight, clouds are expected to return to much of the mid-Atlantic states and the Northeast ahead of a complex of showers and

thunderstorms, which will be developing in the Great Lakes and the Ohio Valley... Even though the rain associated with this

cluster of showers and thunderstorms probably won't reach the I-95 corridor until the wee hours of tomorrow (Wednesday)

morning, it does seem as if those showers and thunderstorms can occur at virtually any time tomorrow... Last night's global

models are printing out (using the consensus of the European, the G.F.S. and the N.A.M./W.R.F. output) between

throughout most of eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and southeastern

New York... While there could be some locally hard downpours that would push some totals above an inch, we feel strongly that

the presence of widespread clouds and the frequency of the rain should be enough to hold temperatures down quite a bit --

and most of them will fail to get out of the 70s tomorrow afternoon... The numerical strings derived from the N.A.M./W.R.F. are

suggesting that it'll be much cooler than today -- and its only projecting high temperatures in the mid and upper-60s tomorrow

across northeastern Pennsylvania and in places as far south as the Lehigh Valley/Greater Allentown!!! The G.F.S. MOS, while

not quite as low with its figures, are still implying that it will be no higher than 80, at best...

There should still be a couple of showers and a thunderstorm scattered about the area tomorrow night, and then Thursday will

be offering the return of sunshine and a pleasant afternoon... High pressure located over the Great Lakes on the weather map

early Thursday morning should promote more pleasant weather (rain-free, but also not hot or humid) for the remainder of the

workweek... Temperatures on both Thursday and Friday will be mainly in the mid and upper-80s... As this ridge of high pressure

drifts into the Atlantic on Friday night and Saturday, the return flow of air on the back side of it should usher some moisture back

into the area... This could result in a couple of showers and thunderstorms during the upcoming weekend -- we'll have more

details on this in the coming days... And, of course, "Tropical Storm Emily" in the Atlantic is still destined to head to the

west-northwest during the next few days... It would not have any impact on the weather in Florida until Friday, at the earliest...

Have a good day!!!

0.25"

and 0.75" of rain late tonight and tomorrow
