March Means Big Swings in Temperatures! Mild Today!
BUT, Bitter Cold Returns Tomorrow!!!
Good Morning,
As we get off to a fairly tranquil start, there should be no less than partial sunshine across
the Tri-State Area today... While we're attempting to not try and be "too cute", applying too
much detail to the sky cover in our forecast, it should be noted that the day will probably start
out fairly sunny, but some clouds will be gathering by late this morning or early this afternoon...
The reason for that sequence is that a cold front will be 'on the move', and it will be pressing to
the south and east as the day wears on... The surface map early this morning is showing that
front moving across the central and eastern Great Lakes, and there will be parts of far upstate
New York which will be in the low and mid-30s at dawn and destined to wind up in the 20s by
lunchtime... Conversely, the Tri-State Area and other locations farther south will have a west to
southwesterly wind, and the front won't be arriving until around 2 p.m. or so... Therefore, even
though the numerical guidance is still a little bit LOWER than what we're projecting around here,
the thoughts which were put into motion by Monday afternoon's crew still apply >> there should
be enough mild air getting squeezed out ahead of this front to bolster the temperature into the
lower-50s in most places, with the possible exception being the Hudson Valley and other areas
well to the north of the City... Even if its in the low-50s for a short period of time -- there are
some much colder changes in store for us tonight... Temperatures will wind up in the teens and
lower-20s as that front continues its march to the south and east, and our sky should turn out
mostly clear...
There are no significant changes to our thinking tomorrow, Friday or during the upcoming
weekend... We have already been advertising that while tomorrow will be fairly sunny, it'll be a
noticeably COLDER day... Not all that windy, though, as the axis of a high pressure system
drifts into the Tri-State Area Thursday afternoon... Tomorrow night won't be quite as cold as
tonight, but there should be a tendency for clouds to spread in from the west on Friday... There is
going to be some light precipitation breaking out on Friday, and it will associated with a push of
milder air across the Great Lakes and into interior parts of the Northeast... For now, its still
looking like the bulk of that light precipitation (which may consist of both rain and snow) will be
confined to upstate New York and northern/western Pennsylvania during the daytime... Then on
Friday night, it'll be creeping a little closer to the coastal plain... At this point, it appears as if
there could be a little rain, or a combination of both... The event is almost 72 hours away, and
it does not appear that it'll be 'big' -- but just part of a transition we'll be making to milder air
this coming weekend... There should be some rain, which will begin late Saturday night or on Sunday...
Temperatures should peak in the mid or upper-50s on Sunday before it cools down again early next week...
Have a good day !!!
